Rules for Petition

Petition means asking. It is a request made to the King of Kings.  During the next week, we will be discussing the part of prayer that is involves our requests to God.

Rules for Petitioning
Ø  Know Who you are talking to.  We are talking to the King of the entire universe.  A person as great as God does not hold casual conversations.

Ø  Listen before we ask.  Prayer is not getting God to agree with our desires, but our desires to agree with God’s.  God will reveal what our desires ought to be if we take the time to listen.

Ø  Know what we are praying for before we petition.  Uncertain prayers are not likely to shake the world.

Ø  Remember in Whose name you ask.  Praying “in Jesus’ name” means that you are presenting your request under His authority and permission.
Ø  Finally--pray from the outside in.

--For the great, general things of the world,
--For individuals who are far from Christ,
--For your friends, neighbors and families.
--Finally for your own needs.
