Your Kingdom Come

In order to have a kingdom you have to have two things.  First, you must have a king.  God is the king of all things. By right, God rules everywhere and always.  Second, you must have subjects. Without subjects, there is no kingdom.
The coming of Jesus’ kingdom is not an expansion of God’s rule, but the inclusion of more people who willingly and joyfully place themselves under the kingship of Jesus.  Praying for the coming kingdom is praying that more of this world, which is now rebel territory, occupied by Satan and rebel people, will submit to the authority of Jesus.
Christians often complain about the condition of the current world.  What to we expect?  This world is the only part of the known universe where God does not rule, and where creatures do not willingly submit to him. Do we expect a prison to act like a church?  Wherever God’s power is extended on earth, the wicked condition of the world begins to change, and the true nature of God’s creation is revealed.
Where we see wickedness in this world, we need to pray that God will expand His kingdom. When wickedness and evil abounds, God’s grace needs to abound even more.  Pray that God will person by person and area by area, break down the power of Satan on earth and replace it with a spirit of willing submission and love.

Think about a place where God has a stronghold in this world—war, famine oppression, wickedness. Pray about that area “thy Kingdom come there, Lord.”  Pray that God will take down the stronghold of Satan, and establish His kingdom there.  Do this regularly, and see if God will not bring His Kingdom in that area, as He does in the rest of the world.

Father, let your Kingdom Come in this world, my country, my city, and my home.  Show me, Lord, the places where in my own life where I have not submitted to Your kingdom.  Make me more willing to follow Your Kingship.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
